Project
  1. Open or create a new score
  2. Click on a note or rest and from the main menu choose Create > Text > Tempo...
  3. In the Tempo Text dialog click "OK"
  4. Double-click tempo text to edit
  5. Go to the end of the text using the arrow keys and press F2
  6. Click on the quarter note and close the F2 dialog
  7. Press Left once
  8. Press Right once (notice the font in the toolbar is now MScore1 instead of Times New Roman)

Crash 1: Switch to another program (such as Firefox), switch back to MuseScore, Sometimes MuseScore crashes at this point.

Crash 2: Press = to add an equals sign to the end. Press Left to position the cursor between the quarter note and the equals sign. Click on the font name in toolbar and press Backspace a few times so that it reads "MS" instead of "MScore1". Click on an empty part of the score to leave text editing mode. Sometimes MuseScore crashes at this point. If not double-click to edit the text again. Move the cursor between the quarter note and equals sign like before. Click on the font name in the toolbar again. Sometimes MuseScore crashes at this point instead.

Tested using r.1959 self-built, Windows XP. Unfortunately the crashes are not 100% reproducible. If you find a series of steps that is 100% reproducible or are able to fill in some of the details leave a comment below.
