Can't find "continuous mode" in Musescore 2.0

• Aug 18, 2013 - 17:04

It is a little bit embarrassing, but I can't find the "continuous mode" in Musescore 2.0. Every post that I have found the last thirty minutes just states go to "continuous mode" but never explains how. Could someone please give me a hint? Thanks a lot.

No, the debugger is something else. It's the Inspector you want. Yu can toggle it via F8. Nice thing about it is you can leave it up, as oppose to the old Properties dialogs that were modal and had to be opened and closed continually.

But the set invisible command is so useful it was given a keyboard ahortcut in 2.0 - I think it's "V".

These really should be in the View menu, probably right at the top... especially in 3.0-dev where switching the view is no longer an undoable edit operation.

The problem with that has generally been, switching from Page to Continuous view actually modifies your score - it's an "undoable" operation, this is saved as part of your score, etc. And the usual rules of UI design say that the things in View menu should not modify your actual document, only how it is displayed. At one point in the development of 2.0, it *was* just a change in how things displayed, but it was difficult/impossible to make "undo" work properly if an operation was done in one view but undone in the other because of how different the views are, so it was converted to an undo-able operation that modifies your score, making it ineligible for the View menu according to standard practice. Not that it's impossible to break that rule, but likely, someone would complain.

My understanding is that for 3.0 it's become non-destructive again, and so can live in the View menu.
