Unable transpose all chord names

• Sep 23, 2013 - 21:23

I have read all the helps on this and a forum discussion from 2009. When I transpose a score, minor chords and diminisheds do not transpose. What am I doing wrong or not doing? I have the most recent version and have installed chords.sym.xml.

First of all, see:
http://musescore.org/en/handbook/chord-name

Additionally,
When some chord names transpose, and others do not, it is most likely that the non-transposed chord name is not recognized by Musescore as residing in the chosen chord description file.

In your 'Indian_Summer_Bb.mscz' attachment, under the menu item - Style / Edit General Style / Chordnames - it shows you have chosen 'cchords_sym.xml' as the chord description file. An Amaj7 chord should display as "AΔ" ( that is, 'A' followed by a 'delta') when entered as 'Ama7'.
If you desire 'Amaj7', then you can use something like 'stdchords.xml'.

Check out the various chord description files via Plugins / Lead Sheet / Create Chord Chart, where you can open each of the different chord description files to see how they display chord names. Then choose the closest one to your preferred method for naming chords.

Hint: When entering chord names, tell tale signs often occur - like when the 'b' turns into an actual flat sign, or a '7' becomes raised a little as sort of a superscript - then you know the chord is recognized and will be transposed properly.

By the way, an improved method for chord naming will be included in the next Musescore version. :-)
Regards...
