Copying different voices into a Piano Staff

• Jul 5, 2017 - 09:30

I have four voices: Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass.
There is no separate piano accompaniment.
The Soprano + Alto voices go into the treble clef of the piano staff. Tenor + Bass voices go into the bass clef of the piano staff.
I have copied the soprano part into the treble clef of the piano staff. How do I copy the Alto clef into the same staff?
I tried converting it to voice 2, but it deletes the soprano portion when I paste it on the piano staff.
Please guide me. I have attached a sample file for your reference.

I find it often easier to copy the bottom voices first, meaning not having to change the source.

  1. Copy Alto notes
  2. Paste to treble staff of piano
  3. repeat (1-2) for bass and bass staff
  4. Select all of the piano
  5. EditVoices → Flip 1-2
  6. Open Selection Filter (F6) and uncheck voice 2
  7. Copy Soprano notes and paste onto piano treble cleff
  8. Copy Tenor notes and paste onto piano bass cleff
  9. Enable voice 2 again in the selection filter

With a closer way:
- in Edit -> Voices: exchange voices 1.2, Alto and Bass parts
- Copy-paste respectively Alto in treble clef piano, and Bass in bass clef piano
- Finally, copy-paste Soprano part in treble clef piano, and Tenor part in bass clef piano

The way to avoid deleting a voice when you paste is not use the selection filter and uncheck that voice before you copy. Then there will be nothing to paste into that voice.
