MuseScore places augmentation dots in single voice tablature above the line:

However, in books I have, two different publishers place the dots below. Here is one:

As there are limited conventions in tablature and both could be potentially acceptable, I would recommend implementing the ability to choose whether the augmentation dot in tablature is placed above, or below the line - in 'Staff Types...'.

Using MuseScore 2.0 Nightly Build (689147c) - Mac 10.7.5.

I think this is too much. I would not add a new control in the already "bloated" staff type UI to accomodate a very very special case except if there is an extremely good justification that it's needed. "A publisher in a book did it" is not a good enough justification I believe. A good argument would be colision case for example.

I know you don't like having many options, but I think the UI looks quite good, currently.

In a certain kind of book (see this ), stems and dots appear downward in single voice - also ties and slurs if there's a chord (as commented here ). Multi-voice in MuseScore works in accordance with the excerpt, with regards to augmentation dots.

It was discussed , but probably at a time when I wasn't as experienced, perhaps.

If there is disagreement in adding another control, then can we change it so that it appears below?
