Musescore 1.3 crashes when I attempt to write percussion notation

• Oct 31, 2013 - 18:34

Hello everyone at Musescore,

I was attempting compose the percussion part of my piece when it kept crashing.

What happened was I have a single staff with five lines for drum kit and I successfully put in the ride cymbal part. Next I was going to put in the closed Hi-hat and the bass drum.

However, when I went to do either of these, the software kept crashing and saying that an unexpected error occurred. I would go into notation mode and then click on the Hi-hat note and when I would click the staff to put the note duration into it, this was when the crash would occur. Sometimes it would occur when I simply clicked on the note I wanted as well.

If you can help me solve this problem it would be greatly appreciated as I am composing some music for some college student short films and I need this piece for this weekend in fact. I had some problems accessing this forum which thankfully were resolved and this is why I was unable to get this up till now.

I am running the latest version of Musescore 1.3 on Windows 7 64 bit edition.

If you need any other information please let me know and I can get that for you! :)

Thank you in advance for all of your help!

Okay, I will attach the score!

I was attempting to make the drum set part first and I added the swing ride cymbal first and then I was trying to do a four-on-the-floor bass drum next. The rest of what I was going to do is quite an intricate rhythm.

Then after that I was going to add instruments to the score for the wind parts.

I ended up making another score with all of the percussion parts separate.

However, here is the original start.

Even that's the backup and thus presumably missing some stuff you added since the previous save, there is still enough there to reproduce the problem. At least, I occasionally - not always - got crashes trying to add a hit hat.

The first thing I notice, however, is that the first measure appears somewhat corrupt - there shouldn't be a barline after the time signature before the first note. Did you do something deliberately to try to cause that to happen? Or if it happened unintentionally, do you recall when that occurred?

I kind of suspect this apparent corruption has something to do with the problem.

I did not do anything to cause there to be a measure before the time signature. Perhaps it happened after one of the crashes. I am not sure when it happened.

I ended up writing all of the drum set parts; bass drum, snare drum, cymbals, etc, each in separate staves.

However, I am still willing to help figure this out as I would like to write them all on one stave at some point as well.

I have attached the file which is the real one that became corrupted and not the backup. I hope this helps as well!

Thank you!
