Musescore unable to read certain files

Recently I have saved some new scores and when I try to open them, the program says it is unable to read them. It is very frustrating after putting time and effort into a score. It does not happen every time, but it has happened after I have saved certain scores. I've checked and the scores did not save as something different (like a pdf. for example) than all the others.
