Default offtime values.

SATB voices all have Auto default value of 1 for offtime. How can I change this Auto value?

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to accomplish. Although "1" shows up in the "offtime" field in the Note Properties dialog, "Auto", as far as I know, means the 1 is ignored until you *change* the type to something else. Whether the default to display in that box was different or not wouldn't change a thing - that value is presumably ignored as long as the type of set to Auto.

So what is it you are actually trying to do?

Well, the problem I am having is that when the SATB voices move from note to note, there is not a constant sound level. The sound drops off at the beginning of each note sung. Reminds me of the boo-wah effect I used to get on my trombone when using a mute closed then open on the same note. I thought it might be the offtime setting. The default program in the instruments.xml file is 52. Windows will not let me change that value to 53 (thought it might be that also).

I think what you are describing is simply the way that sample sounds. What you are seeing is that MuseScore defaults to using patch number 52 (which General MIDI defines as Choir Aahs)
if you select voice as your instrument. You can change that to 53 (Voice Oohs) if you like by using Display / Mixer (F10). I personally prefer using wind instruments for my voice sounds, as most soundfonts have far better samples of those than they do of actual voices.

You *can* change the defaults also rather than doing it for each score. While Windows might require you to have administrator privileges to save to the program folder, you probably don't want to save there anyhow. Save somewhere else on your system, then in Edit / Preferences, tell MuseScore where you put your instruments.xml.
