My screen is different

• Sep 4, 2017 - 15:52

I have downloaded musescore and am using video 4 in the tutorials as was suggested. However the screen in the video shows the midi button and the sound enable button[a loudspeaker symbol] My screen does not show this button so I cannot record. Why is my download different to the video screen and where will I find the sound enable button . Thanks

You probably and inadvertently disabled this, right-click into the menu bar and tick 'Play Tools'

Hmm, hold on, Loudspeaker? That was in MuseScore 1.x, you're probably using MuseScore 2.1 but watched an old tutorial you found somewhere on the internet?

Watch the tutorial 1 thru 11 linked to at the top of https://musescore.org/en/tutorials from Dr. George Hess, not the 1.x series from Katie Wardrobe. Katie's ain't bad, but outdated and, as said, for the old 1.x version of MuseScore, while Dr. Hess' are for MuseScore 2.x.

Hi Jojo, thanks for the reply but I am still struggling.First of all I cannot find the menu screen, so I cannot see what you suggested and I have gone to the link but cannot enlarge that screen. Secondly hess talks abouit the windows screen and enabling the i/o something which Ijust do not understand. I have now looked at the online manual and cannot find anything there. Any suggestions. gatley

Hess's tutorials are done with MuseScore 2.0 on a Mac, the screen does look slighly different on Windows and in 2.1, but certainly not too much.
Not sure what menu screen you are talking about, not what you can or cannot enlarge.
The dialog he talks about in tutorial 4 is described in https://musescore.org/en/handbook/preferences#i-o (here too with a screenshot of a Mac though, but it does look basically the same on Windows)
The handbook also talks about how to connect a MID keyboard, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/note-input#midi-keyboard

What version of MuseScore are you using and on what Operating System? What exactly is the problem you are facing? From https://musescore.org/en/node/229366 I gather you're on Windows 8 and are using a Roland FP30 MIDI keyboard.

A couple of things would hep, I think:

First, what is it you are actually trying to do? You mention "I cannot record", but MuseScore isn't a recording program and provides no record button, nor do any of the videos mention recording. So I think you might be confused about what the video is showing. So again, maybe explain what it is you actually want to do.

Next, could you post a link to the specific you are watching, and tell us at what point in the video (like, "at time position 2:17") you are having trouble.

Finally, could you post a screenshot of your window so we can see what might be going on it's possible you are using the wrong version of MuseScore, it's possible you are accidentally closed one of the toolbars.
