Mid-Staff Sound Change?

Im writing a jazz/ska piece that requires the guitarist to switch between a clean and distorted tone between the verses and chorus. Is there any way to achieve this in Musescore without using two separate instruments/tracks?

Go to handbook-->playback--> mixer for instructions

Hopefully your guitar font splits into clean and distorted.

If you're not using tablature, you can make the instrument a trumpet, then open staff properties through right clicking the staff. Change the transposition to down an octave and perfect unison. Change the instrument names as needed and you now have 2 tracks for the instrument. Open the mixer and change the tracks to the appropriate guitar (Such as clean for the first, and distorted for muted trumpet/Guitar). Now you can add staff text, such as "Clean" and "Distorted" when you want to change between the two. right click the staff text and choose Staff text properties. Set all of the used in that section appropriately. No matter what text you enter, normal will select the first mixer channel and mute will select the second mixer channel. It's a little extra work setting it up, but you only get 1 extra mixer channel that you need for 2 sounds.

Thanks, Marc. I got that part, but the demo score in question starts with classical, acoustic and electric guitars, expands their sounds with the staff text property as you suggest, but combines the 3 instruments and their various sounds into a single staff on the main page. I thought the implode tool might be the trick but that doesn't seem to work. It's mostly curiosity at this point.
