How to create ties leading into a 2nd ending
I used solution 1 (I don't understand how to use the other solutions). It looks OK, but it doesn't play the tie.
What's wrong?

You left out part of step 4, unticking the 'play' property in Inspector

For the record, in this case, the solution 2 works fine.
Select the previous G (ie the whole note in measure 32) -> Press "+" for tie -> Edit (double-click) the length.
