Simplifying rests and measure length

• Mar 18, 2018 - 23:50

So I'm relatively new to this software. I thought it would be nice to use instead of staff paper to write simplified arrangements of pieces my piano students enjoy. I was able to figure a lot out with the handbook, but I can't find these two things:
1. How do you simplify rests? I have three sixteenth rests in a row... is that normal? I really don't know! (Circled in green in the pic)
2. I added lyrics and it ended up pushing one of my measures to the next line and it's really stretched out. I would prefer it to be two measure to a line, but I'm not sure how to get rid of the line break thing at the end. (Measure 4 of the pic)
3. I'm arranging this particular piece as just the melody played in middle C position, but hands don't play together. It's written on the grand staff, but when I add the lyrics, I have to add them with the bass clef and then treble and so on... So it's basically creating two lines of lyrics. Is there a way to fix this? (Circled in red on the pic)

I have attached pictures of all of these issues. If you can help, I would be so grateful! Thank you1

  1. While not in note input mode, select a rest and press a new duration. Either use 16 followed by an 8th or use a dotted 8th. (3 = 16th, 4 = 8th, 4 . = dotted 8th) see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/note-input

  2. Select the line break and press delete

  3. You didn't attach the actual score so this doesn't make sense. It looks like you added two instruments and made one a bass clef rather than using a piano. A piano has a real grand staff not two separate instruments. Use the piano template to make a score and press I to see how it is set up compared to what I suspect you will see when you press I in the score you are working on.
