Different instrument combinations on the same score ?

• Apr 2, 2018 - 19:10

On my score I use predominantly one staff for Voice and one (double) for Piano. For a short section I would like to add a third staff. When I do this the new staff appears through all the score.
Is there a way to delete from the score the unnecessary (empty) portion(s) of the third staff ?
Generally, is it possible to have several different instrument combinations on the same score one after another ?

And you are saying you want the third staff to appear for those bars even though empty? You right click the staff, Staff Properties, and enable "Never hide". But then it won't be hidden when empty elsewhere in the score either, which might not be what you want. So instead, you could insert an invisible note into voice 2 for the measures you want to appear even though they are (otherwise) empty.

If that doesn't answer your question, please attach your score so we can understand and assist better.

Here are the three instruments as an example (attached file). As you can see Piano appears only in bars 13-16, elswhere the staff is without notes. Can I delete the empty staves ? This would be useful when printing the pages.
And generally I would like to know if different instrument combinations can be created (here Voice-Organ and Voice-Organ-Piano) one after another on the same score ? In case this is possible, no problem exists as to empty staves.
I use Continous view for clarity.

Continues view and "Hide empty staves" are practically mutually exclusive, as there is no empty stave then, normally (and not in this score).
On top for Piano you had set "Done hide when system is empty"
Also you had not unticked "Don't hide empty stave in 1st system"

I kinda will do this myself by changing an instrument part (right cluck on instrument name on sheet music, select staff properties, click on instrument change button to select a different instrument for that part). Was laa, you can save a copy of that song with one part changed to a different instrument or make multiple instrument changes then and save a copy... remember what the original instrument was though for reference and probably make a note of what the instrument change was when saving a copy. For instance "song 6 oboe to bassoon" for a copy of the original file "song 6" with a different instrument ..
