Help! My Musescore app is huge
I have been having difficulties with Musescore for a couple months. when I open Musescore, the icons on the toolbars (File Manager, Note Input, etc.) are all as large as the screen. If I go into View and remove all the toolbars, have can then hit (Command -) to shrink the score down to 5% (according to the program) but in actuality it is what would normally be 100% size. This has been happening periodically for several months. Every so often, I will open Musescore and it will revert back to normal size while I keep the program open, but if I close the program out, it reverts back to the gigantic icons. When this happens, I will delete Musescore from my computer and redownload, but that doesn't work. I have downloaded Musescore on another computer, but still the icons are the size of the computer screen. I have gone into Musescore properties and have shrunk the icons down as much as I can, but still am not able to see my entire score. I have a mac 27 inch running 10.11 and and mac mini running 10.13. I have updated both computers and have redownloaded Musescore multiple times to no avail. I am in the middle to a writing a score and would like to finish, but i can't. If anyone has any suggestions or has the same problem, please help.

Thanks. I’ve tried that before and just tried it again and it still has the large icons.

What is your actual screen resolution, and which specific command line option did you use? That's definitely the way to fix this, but you have to know your actual screen resolution for it to work. Although "-x 1" sometimes works magically.

I tried to change my screen resolution, but that didn’t do anything for the size of the icons. Please see attached picture.

You don't need to change your screen resolution. You simply need to know what it is, then use that information to set your command-line options to MsueScore appropriately. Which is why I asked, what is your screen resolution (in dots per inch, not just the overall dimensions), and what command line option did you use, precisely? Did you try "-x 1"?

My screen resolution 1920x1080 and 166 pixels per inch. I’m sorry, but I don’t understand what you mean by command line option.

As explained in the post to which you originally responded, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/command-line-options. You should try the "-x" and the "-D" options, specifically with "-x 1.6" (or maybe "-x 1", or "-x 2"), and also try "-D 166". Depending on the specifics of your configurations, one of these will work best, but all will do something.

I am new to this party, but the directions in the handbook did not work for me with Mac OS 11 (Big Sur) and MuseScore 3.6, or perhaps I just did not understand them)
I use a Mac with a 42" TV as a monitor and sit across the room with a bluetooth keyboard and track pad.
The instructions given did not work for me, but I found out how to do it.
Go to the applications folder.
Right click (which for me is CONTROL - CLICK) on the application and choose "Show Package Contents"
Drag mscore to an open Terminal window.
It will look like this:
% /Applications/MuseScore\ 3.app/Contents/MacOS/mscore
to which you must ad, (without the brackets shown in the online MuseScore manual) -D xx
xx = the screen resolution you want to try and can be more than 2 digits.
You must leave the Terminal window open as you use MuseScore. You must follow this process each time you open MuseScore.
I find it easier to adjust the settings within the MuseScore app just once. They remain as you set them each time you open the app in the traditional way.
But I really appreciated learning something new as I have never ever used the command line for anything before.

I am not very computer savvy, but I think I have run across a similar issue. I have my Mac connected to my tv screen and use the tv as my monitor. I have found if I open MuseScore with the tv usb-c/hdmi connector plugged into my mac, the resolution is very large. I have to unplug the tv from my computer, open MuseScore, then plug the tv back in so I can work. I hope this helps. Good luck.
