Static Noises

Hello

I keep coming across a problem with musescore that I can not get to the bottom of. Whenever I play a score, I keep getting static and pops in the audio. When I export the audio, it is fine. The problem gets even more weird because it randomly stops and I can not even figure out what I do to cause it to stop making these noises.

I’m running musescore version 2.1.0 on Ubuntu 18.04. I installed musescore from the Ubuntu software center.

Can someone please help to solve this problem because it is driving me up the wall?

Try installing a different soundfont. Many high-quality soundfonts can be found on the Musescore website.

This sounds exactly like what I am (still) having with 2.2.1 on MacOS. BTW, I just listened to an entire MP3 album with no audio artifacts, so it is not my wiring....maybe we could learn something if you (JJS) disclosed what this problem turned out to be and what fixed it?

His problem was different - it was a known issue in the 2.1 that was fixed in 2.2, which is why the update fixed it.

Your case is still mysterious. I get that some mp3 files played using some programs don't seem to trigger faults in your audio system (again, it's almost certainly not about wiring or speakers but about your audio device). But the fact that you hear problems even on playback from musescore.com is all but definitive proof that the issue is not within MuseScore since as far as I know MuseScore is not actually playing the score on the website - it's your browser that is playing an mp3. So it is vital to track down the problem from that angle. Try downloading that specific mp3 file to your drive, then playing that specific mp3 file using the same browser you were using to visit the website.
