Rare sound into MuseScore_General.sf3

• May 16, 2018 - 22:56

Hi gang!!!

I thought I was mad, but... I had to listen this to 10 different people and... All of them told me they were hearing the same as I:

There is an extra and "rare" sound into "Strings" and "Slow Strings" when we use long notes (as into my very brilliant attached sample file, hihihi).

It is from the third tempo of the first bar up to the end of the chord.

It sounds like... An harp??? Or something like that.

It is just when we use the "MuseScore_General.sf3" soundfont file (just in case, I use UbuntuStudio 16.04 LTS and MuseScore 2.2.1).

Can somebody fix it, please???

Blessings & Greetings from Chile!!!

JUAN

Can you be more specific about the sound you are hearing? I didn't notice anything unusual. Is it one specific instrument? Or maybe it's just a normal audio artifact of the harmonics of the different sounds interacting?

Marc, I just noticed it with the "Strings" and "Slow Strings" sound (or MIDI Patch), into the MuseScore_General.sf3 soundfont file, only.

I think it is some kind of echo which was captured when this sound was recorded. So, each time we use a long note, we can ear it (which... not always is a good thing).

I tested both with and without some additional audio processing artifacts (Zita-1 inside MuseScore, and Audacity into the outside world) and... It is the same, always!!!

Unfortunately, we can not to attach audio files (wav or mp3) here, because I recorded this sound but...

You can hear it better if you use the panoramic control into the MuseScore Mixer panel this way:
Violines 1 -------> Left channel
Violines 2 -------> Left channel
Violas------------> Center channel
Violonchelos---> Right channel
Contrabajos----> Right channel

So, you will be able to hear this "effect", clearly, from the left side of the "stage".
