Dynamics playback issue

• Jun 24, 2018 - 20:46

Hi, gang!!!

I don't know if it is a bug or is something still not fixed.

Dynamics work when we playback music ONLY when there are a lot of notes into the staves.

If you see and hear my "very wonderful awesome" personal composition (hi hi hi hi), you can note that:

The bars fulled of notes (first 8 bars)... Dynamics work so fine!!!

The bars when I put a repetition sign (last 8 bars)... Dynamics don't work!!!

Well, to be honest, the first 4 chords (on the first bar of the repetitions section) are played with an audible dynamics change. And this change is exactly the same into the next 7 bars of the section. But.. It isn't what we'd expect to happen.

It is the same when we use tr... and other articulations

Is it a bug??? Or... Is some known issue, still not fixed???

Blessings & greetings from Chile!!!

JUAN

Indeed, the way MuseScore interprets the repeat measure sign is pretty literal. If you require more accurte playback, better to not use this shorthand, which is really about simplifying the notation. Feel free to report this formally in the issue tracker and maybe some day it can be improved.

I would consider it unconventional to use the repeat sign with any difference in the way the affected measures are played except perhaps with a cresc. or dim. or tempo change like rall. affecting all of them, any other changes would eliminate the possibility of using them IMHO. Even the cresc. and rall. type changes would make their use very questionable to me.

In fact, I'm not a "fan" to use that repeat sign, except to guitar (or other similar) part. To me, that sign is not... "musical shape" (just my opinion).

But... The issue is similar to the long notes issue, where MuseScore doesn't perform the crescendos, or diminuendo, and I'm not absolutely sure if rallentando or accellerando works.

Something is obviously missed between the score and the synthesizer, in those cases.

Of course, it is just a playback area issue. It is not related with the graphical part of the Musescore area.
