Tenor Drums

• Jul 19, 2018 - 18:35

When the hell are tenor drums going to be fixed, i have created so many cadences and music pieces that sound extremely terrible when there are only 2 functioning drums in the tenor line. I already had soundfonts installed, but this new "update" broke everything and now i cant get recordings of them. i was really hoping this "Drumline" update would fix the problem. does anyone know of any soundfonts that support 2.3. I need these pieces in full functioning order before marching season starts

Can you share a score you having trouble with? Tenor drums should be working perfectly in 2.3 using default settings and soundfonts. I just created a test score, added "Tenor Drums" from "Percussion - Marching", and added each and every note from the palette, and they all played back just fine. Maybe you are trying to use a template or a soundfont from an older release? Or are trying to use the MDL drums without the MDL soundfont, or vice versa?

I tried soloing the tenor staff on the first example and it played perfectly. Can you say whihc notes you are having trouble trouble with? Here again, I tried adding each note from the palette and they all played back perfectly. The second file indeed has issues, but I can see it was created using the "old" marching setup. Just go to View / Mixer and change the sound to the regular Marching Tenor and everything plays. At least, using the default soundfonts.

My guess is still that whatever problem you are having comes from trying to use older templates or a custom soundfonts that simply aren't compatible with MuseScore any more (assuming they ever were). There was indeed a known issue in 2.2 tenor drums but it's fixed in 2.3.

Hi Alan,

You should really use the MuseScore Drumline extension instead of default.

You can get this here - https://musescore.org/en/mdl

Keep in mind, MDL does have the same mapping as previous default, so you need to modify any scores created in previous versions of MuseScore.

The best way to do this is to create a new score from the MDL template (in this case the Battery template) and copy/paste each staff into the new score.

Once in the new MDL template, select the notes and use the arrow keys to toggle through choose the appropriate MDL sound.

I've attached one of your scores converted to MDL.
