Notehead changing problem
When I drag and drop a diamond notehead onto a note to indicate harmonics, it doesn't replace the original -- it just overlaps it. I want it to replace the original.
I'm attaching a photo of what happens when I drop a diamond onto a quarter note and a half note. I don't see anything in the palette or inspector that would allow for this. Would appreciate any help!

You can use the inspector to change several notes to diamond heads by selecting the notes (ctrl+click adds a note) and the change the Head Group to diamond. Your picture actually looks like what I get when I do as I said.

I only want to see a diamond, not a diamond overlapping a regular notehead.

Does not overlap but one is an half note the other a quarter note.

Is there a way to replace the head altogether with an outline of a diamond?

a trick: a note of Voice 2 (invisible) and a note of Voice 1 mute?
But it's misleading

A better way is to change the Head Type to Half in the inspector, no need for other voices.

The photo attached to my post shows what happens when you do that, it doesn't look like a diamond, but like a diamond superimposed on top of a half note head.
Using a diamond is a normal way to notate natural harmonics...
Change the musical symbols font to "bravura" or "gonville" (style-general...), does it look better for you?

Yes, thank you for the suggestion. Bravura is just much more cramped, so I prefer Emmentaler... and I still don't understand why the diamonds would look that way in Emmentaler though.

With Emmentaler you could also check, if you can live with the result by using head group "Mi" inside the inspector.

The heads look the way they do because that's the way they are defined in the font. You would need a different music font to make the note heads look different. I've see better and I've seen worse in print, but the Emmentaler notes look like diamonds and their meaning is quite clear to me.

As far as I know, this font was designed by the folks from LilyPond, who are considered experts in such matters. I guess different publishers use different shapes and they used as a model music from a publisher other than the one(s) you are most familiar with.
