Beginners problems ,.

Hi..

Just started my first effort at constructing one of my scores on MS. and I just can not fathom out how to start entering notes on the second beat of a bar.
The score in question is a 3 stave piece for SAB..and I want to make an entry on the second beat on the alto line which requires a quarter note rest on the first beat... so how to achieve this ?.
I have attempted to find a solution on the pdf Local Help pages, to no avail !.
I realise that there is probably a simple method of answering the problem...
I love to enter any learning curve, so can anyone help please ?... I hope so.

Thanks,

Alan Amos.

To put a note on beat two you must put a one beat rest first. Press n50 to get into note entry mode and enter a quarter rest, you can then start entering notes or rests as you like.

Click in the measure you want to write on the whole rest, it becomes blue, press 5 (for quater) you get 2 quater notes and 1 half rest, select your quater rest (the 2nd), becomes blue, press N, enter your note.

Look at the HANBOOK you find on the top of the page

The key to entering music in MuseScore is to enter the notes and rests left to right. That is, you write it more or less exactly as you read it. The way you would know when reading music that a note starts on beat two is that you'd see a rest on beat one. So that's exactly how you write it.

Thanks Xavier, and all !,

I have simply downloaded MS Version 2 !... watched the Video Tutorials... and finished my project, complete with lyrics and all the trimmings, and printed it for Choral use !.
The software is GOOD !...

Thanks again....😎
