Ability to color the staff for each voice
I have found it very useful to use highlighters to more easily and immediately differentiate voices when working with a long score that has many voices, not only when composing, but when conducting as well.
I also work frequently with some non-professional beginner pianists and when I have highlighted their staves, it has helped them tremendously to be able to keep track of which line is theirs and to not lose their place and get confused about what they are supposed to be playing.
The ability to assign a color to a voice and PRINT those colors would be FABULOUS!!
(And please allow a full range of color selection!)
No other software (that I know of) offers this feature and I believe many others would find it very useful!

Thank you! I've never seen this feature. I will definitely use it!
I am MOST APPRECIATIVE of your response!
However, having just used it, I would still like to see an added ability to assign a color by voice so that all measures for that voice were automatically highlighted, instead of the lengthy 7 step process currently required, especially since (as far as I can see) it is necessary to make placement adjustments on each line.
I do love that one can select only specific measures if only particular measure need emphasis or focus, but the ability to highlight an entire voice would be great to have. This could be done in the "Instrument" window where one can add instruments to the score, in addition to being able to set it as "visible", etc.
Also, I notice this puts the color OVER the notes, making them less visible. Is there a way to place the color UNDER the notes so that the visibility of the notes is not diminished??

Right-click on a staff->Stave properties and change the color. You can do the same for the notes https://musescore.org/en/handbook/selection-modes#all-similar-selection

Thank you Shoichi, but that changes the color of the staff lines, not the background. :)
(See the examples in my original post.)

Yes, they are just workarounds, as well as add frames or underlays

Best way is to switch to the continuous view therefore. Select all measures of the staff (select the first measure, then ctrl+shift+end or shift+click on the last measure). Double click the line inside the palette. Make changes as described (Colour and position). Switch back to the page view.
With the next major release it will be possible to change the stacking order, with the current release it isn't possible to place the line behind the staff.
Some years ago there was a google summer of code project (https://musescore.org/en/user/61850/blog/2016/08/22/gsoc-weekly-update-…), but I don't know if it will ever implement.
I'm aware, that your feature request is a little bit different, but similar.

Thank you for the suggestion of "continuous". That was very helpful!
And I'm very happy to know about the stacking order feature coming in the next release!
I love all the different elements in the link you sent me! In addition to the stacking order, it would be great if those got implemented!
