How do I get a rythem of a 16th note on the beat of 1 and on a?

I keep trying to add a rhythm for tenor drums that is 1a 2a 3a 4a but I keep getting 1e 2e 3e 4e and I am unsure how to make it become the way I want it without adding two 16th note rests in between.

The rests have to be entered to enter the rhythm. If there are other drums and these rests are not needed it is best to select them and make them invisible by pressing v.

Music is read from left to right, so if you want people to understand that the second note is on "a" rather than "e" (fourth rather than second sixteenth) then you normally either need to show the rests or else make the duration of the first note long longer. For instance, if you write the first note as a dotted sixteenth, then the next available place to enter a note is "a", so it works without rests. That's the usual way this type of rhythm would be entered.

As noted above, if another drum on the same staff has notes on all sixteenths, then it is technically possible to understand the rhythm even without using dotted eighths or rests, but it isn't standard / correct notation. Even when other drums are present on the same staff, one would usually use dotted eighth / sixteenth for this type of rhythm.
