Recover Past Save

• Nov 8, 2018 - 23:55

I just spent a couple hours adding to a composition and saved it. When I went to "finder" on my Mac to find it and open it again it asked me if I wanted to save changes and I selected No or cancel or something and the document that pulled up was what I had before I put in the couple hours of work. Is there any way to still recover it? I haven't pushed any buttons on the program since selecting, obviously, the wrong option in hopes I might be able to recover it. HEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP!!!

Sorry to hear of your difficulty! In order to help, it going to be important you can remember exactly what happened. Opening a score from Finder should not normally ask if you want to save anything - the file should simply open. The one case where it would ask is if you already had the file open (left over from before), so Finder actually was trying to reopen it, and there were unsaved changes. If you said no, then I'm afraid you probably did indeed lose whatever changes you had not saved, but you'd get back whatever you did save.

So assuming this is the case - you opened a file that was already open, then said no when MuseScore offered to save your changes first - and find you've lost work, then one of two things is probably true. Either 1) you thought you saved your changed but did not, and you're probably out of luck at this point (but see below), or 2) you did save your changes, but to a different location than the one you opened. In the latter case you just need to find the right version of file - the one you actually saved. Look at the time'date on the file to see if it looks like you really did save it recently.

If you failed to save it, your work is probably gone I'm afraid, but do check https://musescore.org/en/node/52116 and see if the section on autosave files is of help. Most likely any useful info is gone from there too, but it's worth a shot.
