Sorry, I'm still confused - what do you want to join them to? They aren't adjacent, and the notes that appear adjacent to them aren't in the same voice. Eg, the E on beat 1& voice 1 is already beamed to the F on beat 1, but the note on beat 2 is a quarter note. You can't beam the E to the F on beat 2 - they are in different voices. The G on beat 2& is likewise already beamed to the note on beat 2, and there are no eighth notes on beat 3 to beam to.
Sorry, pilot error. As you might have inferred, I was correcting someone else's work, and I assumed MS3 breakage before looking deeper into what was going on. Different voices indeed. Please annul this report as necessary, sorry.

Please attach the score and give steps to reproduce. Works fine in the cases I tried.
