Playback does not happen through headphones if plugged in after MuseScore is opened

Basically, whenever I try to use the playback feature when I have plugged in headphones after MuseScore has been opened, the sound plays out of the MacBook's speakers instead of out of the headphones, which, as you can probably imagine, is quite annoying. This does not happen if the headphones are plugged in when MuseScore is opened. I know that the headphones are connected properly as they play other media, such as through Spotify.
