I have already opened the file with musescore and have placed it in the designated soundfont folder as well. Regardless of what I do, the soundfont will not appear in the synthesizer.

You need to add it in the synthesizer, press Add, then select the desired soundfont, then Load

I have already done that and it still sounds the same. I am still hearing the default soundfont.
what does the mixers say as to which sounds are assigned to the instruments? Is that soundfont GM compatible?
