Unlike other editable text boxes, the font and bold style of tempo text can not be changed using the inspector. Underlining, italicizing, and resizing still works. Tested in OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.0.0.4516, revision: 59a11cd
In the example, below I am able to have staff text unbolded (tempo = 133), and change the font style, but not the tempo text. (My life is ruined...)
To reproduce, simply select the tempo text of a score and try to unbold it or change the font style through the inspector.

Works fine for me. I'm guessing you have custom formatting applied (using the toolbar at bottom of window) and that is overriding the Inspector as designed. To reset that, use the "Remove Custom Formatting" button in the Inspector.
If that resolve this issue for you, you can go ahead and close this. Otherwise, please attach your score and tell us which measure to look at.

Your right. Case closed. Next time, I'll post first in the forum. Thanks.
Is the purpose of requiring the user to remove custom formatting first to prevent any accidental changes to the loaded style?
I don't know, it's just logical to me that since the whole point of the toolbar is to override the Inspector, that this shouldn't cease to be the case just because you change something in the Inspector. Seems people would find that very surprising - imagine increasing the size of the text as a whole using the inspector and finding that removed all italicized words within the text and all superscripts etc applied via toolbar.
