MIDI two issues

• Jan 14, 2019 - 23:15

Hi, gang!!!

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to these issues, but...

1) When MuseScore reads some MIDI standard file (*.mid), created by another software (whatever), MuseScore recognizes so fine the volume and velocity of each instrument, which is the expected behaviour. BUT... Why there is not any automatic function to put those dynamic changes into the whole score? I'm talking about to automatic place dynamic symbols (fff, ff, f, mf, mp, p, pp, ppp,), according to the MIDI file parameters.

2) Even the fact that MuseScore recognizes the MIDI files dynamic changes, because some reason I don't know, we can not to change or reset it. I mean, there is not any button or plug-in to perform this. If we select all notes of some voice, or instrument, and then we change de velocity value into the inspector panel, the original MIDI file dynamic is still the same. There was a plug-in to reset all, but... It seems to be out-of-date, now. How can we fix it???

Blessings and Greetings from Chile!!!

When you import a midi file, each note normally has a velocity (volume) attached to it. These are imported into MuseScore and can be seen in the inspector when you select a note. If there are dynamic marks (ff, mp etc.) and velocity entries, dynamic marks have no effect. If you want the dynamics to have effect, then select all of the notes only (you can press ctrl+a then click the notes button in the inspector) and change the dynamic type to offset and and velocity to 0 and dynamic marks will be used. The reset to default buttons will do this for you if you press them.
