Whatever value is set as "Maximum barline distance" in Format> Style> Chord Symbols, it is ignored and chord symbols never change formatting with respect to barline.

True, it's a holdover from 2.x not currently used in the algorithm. At some point we hope to implement a better solution for spacing of chord symbols.

Is there a particular real world use case you need supported? The old setting was a bit of a hack and really didn't do what users would expect most of the time, it just sort of happened to do some good things in a few cases. Seems it would be better to come up ith real improvements to handling of chord symbols across barline rather than reproduce the quirks of previous versions.

Since the setting appears to be disabled, and no real-world use is apparent, perhaps it could be removed from the UI?

Well, there is a real-world use for wanting control over the behavior of chord symbols across barlines, it's just that this setting was never an ideal way to do it. More of a compromise based on what happened to be easy to implement back when chord symbol spacing was handled entirely differently than it is now with automatic placement.

So, it's good to have some real discussion - preferably on the forum - about what kind of controls would be truly useful, then we can think about how to implement them and to migrate the current settings.
