Automatic Placement
Just want to know if I can turn off Automatic Placement by default...
can't seem to find it in preferences... or anywhere for that matter...

There is no such setting. Only for individual elements, via Inspector.

You probably don't really want to turn off all automatic placement. You probably need to learn how it works better so you can appreciate it. If you attach your score and explain you goal, then someone will likely look at it and discuss it with you.
