Play back from a start point within the score.
When I select a bar and start play, the marker is positioned part way through the bar and the music starts as if the preceding part of the bar contained just rests. The score plays OK from the beginning.

What happens when you select a note (not a bar) and start play?
If you are using Continuous-View, an error (bug?) causes the software to behave in this way.
workaround: Use Page view.
FWIW, there have been enough reports of problems with playback in continuous view to make it clear there is a problem, so far to my knowledge there is no single issue open with clear steps to reproduce such a problem with a specific score. Seems like it would be very nice to have that in order to start investigating and hopefully fixing the problem.
Closest I know of are #286951: Loop playback - selection does not work in single page view which is about loop playback specifically.
A bit late now , but in my experience the problem does not appear straight away but only after several correct starts.
