First select a measure then right click and select measure properties to reproduce.

A new window opens up but behind the main window and it won't let you select it.

If you get into this situation try the following key strokes

alt+spacebar
m
down arrow
move mouse

the window should now have the title bar of the window where the pointer is, so make sure you haven't moved it to the edge of the screen.

I haven't run into your problem, so I don't know for certain this will help, please let me know.

I can't reproduce this either (Windows 10). Hopefully the above gets you out of this situation; if not, there is always Help / Revert to Factory Settings. Or you could try to reset window position plugin.

Meanwhile, let us know if you can remember how you got into this situation in the first place - maybe some combination of opening the dialog, resizing your main window, and/or changing monitors?

My fix is for a window that has moved off the side of the screen. I think people are assuming these windows are hidden behind the MuseScore window. I have, to this point, mostly sat back and observed the conversations and I'm of the opinion that the complaints that windows are being opened behind the main window are incorrect. If the dialog (mixer, style...) window is behind the main window, you should be able to un-maximize the MuseScore window and move it out of the way enough that you can click the "hidden" window and give it the focus so you can work with it. If I'm correct, I know how to fix this in windows by following my procedures listed above. For other OS's (it does work for Windows too) the plugin https://musescore.org/en/project/reset-dialog-positions should work.
