A few requests

• Apr 19, 2019 - 15:16
  1. I would like to be able to add a part name to my score titled "Score" without it appearing on all of the parts. I have to go into each part and make it invisible and with sometimes over 20 parts this is time consuming.
  2. Make it so when you start play back in the middle of a tied note it plays. Currently it won't so if you have something holding in the background you won't hear it till it re-articulates and this is frustrating especially if it is a really long note that is holding.
  3. Make crescendos and decrescendos work on long and tied notes. This would be much better for playback.
  4. Make it so you can select notes across staves and change there length and not just one note at a time. If I want to change a rhythm that is in multiple parts I have to do them each individually which is time consuming.

Thanks. I didn't want to have to make a separate post for each of these so here they are in one place. I think these would make the software a lot better to use.

-1. I believe you can do something like make the part name invisible (or at least white) in one part and apply this to every part with the apply to all parts button in the style window to "hide" it.

-2. AMEN!

-3. is in version 3.1 when it gets released and can be tested now in 3.1-beta.

-4. also in v3.1 will be the ability to cut/copy as section of notes and paste them all as double or half duration. If you want a brand new rhythm, you'll have to do something else.

The paste half/double is merged and is in the beta already. It kind of sort of deals with the request at hand, but there is actually a different PR that deals with it more directly. That is, the ability to select a region of a song, (say, a passage for several instruments all written in half notes) press the quarter note button, and have each chord in the selection changed into a quarter note (with quarter rests between them). But it is true that paste half duration will accomplish the same result in the special case where your range is only a single chord vertical slice - one half note chord across several instruments.

For 1), consider making a new "part" that contains all staves, and calling "score". Maybe not a great for performance reasons until you are basically done. But it has some other potential nice advantages. But yeah, adding a partname shouldn't link in the first place. It's just plain text internally, which normally would link, but we could certainly modify the "add part name" command to not link, with some work. Perhaps more interesting would be a new option made part of the text style, "link". Really, it's something that could be useful for way more than just text, but this would be a relatively easy place to start. Further discussion welcome.

2) is a great suggestion; it's been in the issue tracker for a long time but with little attention: #25353: Starting playback on tied notes doesn't play the note. In my comments from five years ago (!) I said I was of two minds about this, but I think I've lost one of them since then :-) - I can't think of a good reason not to do this.

3) is indeed already in 3.1

For 4), this came up in the (in)famous Tantacrul review of our GUI (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hZxo96x48A), and now there is a pending PR for it: https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/pull/4932.
