Spacing Between Instrument Groups (Globally)

• May 2, 2019 - 14:22

Hello again,

I am working on a large orchestral work and having some troubles formatting my score as I wish.

The score includes woodwinds, brass, percussions, choir, soloists, piano, and a strings section.
Although I was able to adjust overall spacing on the page I would like to add some more distance between instrument groups (sections) to make it easier for conductors to rapidly locate them as in any well formatted orchestral score.

The best solution I found so far is adding staff spacers to desired places but their effect is individual. Is there a way to make them globally work for the whole score instead of adding them page by page between instrument groups for uncountable times? Since the score is about at least 450 hundred pages I am really in need of a smart and fast solution to save some time.

Thanks!

You can right click the first instrument in a group, choose staff/part properties and put a number in the "Extra distance above staff" field. As long as that instrument is visible, you will get the extra space you want. The extra space will not be seen if the instrument is hidden.

I understand. There is a bit of work involved in updating a score from version 2 to version 3. I advise people to not upgrade all of their scores unless they have a good reason. If if you do decide to upgrade a score and run into problems, don't hesitate to start a new thread and people will give you advise to make the process easier, though never totally automatic.
