I am creating music snippets for the LibreOffice extension MuseScore Example Manager. I want to create standalone single measures of arbitrary length. This is what I found:

I create a score in 2/4 time with one measure. I add a melody, e.g. a half note on D. Then, for cleanness and clarity, I would like to delete the time signature. It is irrelevant. But when I do, a half rest appears.

Again, the steps are:

1) Create a score in 2/2 time with one measure.
2) Append a horizontal frame and expand it to make the measure normal width instead of full page.
3) Add notes to fill the measure.
4) Highlight the time signature by clicking on it and press .

For my suggested workaround, I may have to use Lilypond, no offense.

Thanks,

Coby

When I explicitly delete the half rest, it still shows grayed out in MuseScore, but it does not seem to show in LO.

This is the correct/intended behavior. If you don't want to see the time signature, don't delete it - then MuseScore will need to substitute a default. Instead, turn off the display of time signatures in the staff properties.

BTW, I have more or less stopped supporting the LibreOffice extension as they changed too much about how the script language works for images. Instead, I added a "Copy with link to score" to the right-click menu for the Image Capture tool within MuseScore, so you can paste images with links directly into LibreOffice. Not quite the same thing, but hopefully close enough.

This must be an advanced feature. I do not have that option in the basic right-click menu. I do not see where to turn it on. I am using MS 2.3.2 on Ubuntu 19.04. You are right that the extension no longer works right. I can only paste static images with it. They do not link back to the score and they do not update, if they ever did. I did try hiding the time signature (and clef) after I figured out how to do it. It works.

Got 3.2.3 installed and the image capture feature works. I wish it could automatically update when I change the score, but that is OK. I am grateful for the ability to put music in my document!
