Add Instrument for just one page of a score?

I'm trying to transcribe an orchestral score that has a single staff allocated to the cello and bass (as for nearly the whole they are in fact playing the same notes). However, towards the end of the piece there are a few bars where they're not playing the same notes. Seeing as their respective lines during this period cross one another (making it impractical to put as two voices on the same staff), the original publisher chose to temporarily add a second staff linked below the original Vc.& Basso staff for the bass' notes during this brief span (the two staves are bracketed together similar to how one often sees violin 1's and 2's bracketed together).

Is it possible to duplicate this, i.e. to add an instrument (or rather just a linked staff to my Vc/Basso line) for just a page or two in the midst of the score? I obviously don't want to have an entire extra part to print out for bass when there's only a few bars of the whole that are different.

Thanks in advance!

Hmm, I added a staff 2 below the staff 1 of VC/BS, but it seems even with "hide empty staves" selected, it shows the whole whole rest of the piece's empty measures. When I add it as a new instrument altogether it displays only the bars where the notes exist, but I'm not sure how to see to it that they get linked like that in the same part since they're technically different instrument staves now.

Nevermind I figured it out, when creating the part, just select both the Vilon cello/Basso and the newly created Basso part (for just those few bars where they differ) with "hide empty staves" selected, then it will link them together in the same part for printing.

Thanks again so much Jojo-Schmitz.

By the way, I'm curious, are you one of the programmers?

So, as it turns out, it seems that the "hiding empty stave" isn't going to be a viable solution, on account of it hides all empty staves, which in many instances are to be preserved in the conductors score (for instance the SATB). I just need to make it so there's a bracketed stave to the Cello/basso stave for those few bars where they're not playing the same notes (and since the voices cross this can not be represented as multiple voices through those measures), or to be able to hide the empty staves of just the newly created basso "instrument" solely for this "divisi". Is it possible to hide the selectively hide empty staves for a particular insturment alone?Or, Any other ideas, sir? So there's no way to add/remove instruments throughout portions of the score?

Much easier

if you only want to affect 1 instrument, but hide empty staves in the style settings is often better if you want a lot staves empty. You also have the option to set hide this staff to never in staff/part properties. In short, version 3 gives you lots of flexibility for hiding staves, we haven't even mentioned instrument yet.

Marc, I like the sound of your proposed solution, however that option does not seem to appear under staff properties for Muse 1.2 or 2.3? (these are the versions I have on my antiquated machine, Mac 10.6.7, windows XP bootcamp.) I'm assuming 2.3 is the highest version I can get for my XP bootcamp, as, if I remember correctly, that was the version that was automatically downloaded from the site?
