MIDI CC customized for virtual instruments

• Oct 2, 2019 - 06:45

Hello everyone. Hoping someone one could help me.
I use musescore as my score writer. I also us spitfire studio strings instruments in kontakt player. And I use contact player as VST plugin in Ableton live 10Lite at this point. I generate midi files for all parts in musescore and import in Ableton specific midi file for an instrument. I don't use any midi controller or modwheel

Spitfire studio strings have their Properitery specification called UACC which standardize articulations control between their instruments and libraries.
For example
legato small 20
Legato tremolo 30
Long sustain small 5
Trill (minor 2nd) 70... To name a few.

I would like to use these in musescore so that the midi files generated by musescore will have all articulations recognized by spitfire studio strings.
Can some one help me with this.

Hello!

Sorry for the delayed response.

  1. What version of MuseScore do you use? What operating system? The answer may be heavily dependent on that.
  2. Did you try using articulations that are available in MuseScore? Does Spitfire play this midi files wrong? It would be great if you provide several measures of a score as an example.

  3. Did you try to export your score using other format, for example MusicXML? I don't know whether Spitfire does support import of other formats, but it is definitely worth checking.
  4. From your personal letter:
"Spitfire uses their CC32 specifications for articulations and decorative techniques like trill etc.
How can I use the same CC32 specifications in musescore so that the midi files generated using musescore will have the information about articulations recognized by spitfire."

I was working on adding arbitrary MIDI Events several years ago, but this work was not finished: https://github.com/Igevorse/MuseScore/commits/midi-actions

Not sure if it is supported right now (it's better to ask @lasconic).

As a workaround you may use midi remappers like http://midikarval.net/MidiMapper.html
