Musescore crashed after palette update, unable to reinstall

• Nov 3, 2019 - 22:13

I was trying to open the Musescore app on my Windows 10 computer, when to my surprise I find that the palette changed. But it didn't fully load all the way because before I knew it, it crashed. I attempted to open it many times after that but I still failed. I even tried deleting the app and reinstalling it. However when I tried, the setup wizard said they could not repair the issues and said to try again later. Therefore I keep having to take 10 minute breaks to reinstall it again but it still wouldn't work. I'm hoping the Musescore management will fix this because this is a really annoying issue I have to deal with. I don't know if it's because of the new palette update, but either way I'm hoping it gets taken care of.

You say it crashes, but you haven't said what it does before it crashes. The start center causes some users' systems to crash on start up. If you only see the splash screen before the crash, this is probably the problem. Double click an existing score to open MuseScore (this bi-passes the start center) then disable the start center in Edit->Preferences so it will work properly. See #275837: MuseScore crashes during start-up while displaying "Start center". As you can see in that issue, it has been a problem for about a year, but it only affects some people. Once a developer experiences the problem, they will be able to track down the issue and fix it.

Yes I did see the splash screen before it crashed. Fortunately I was able to open one of my existing scores and get back into the software. However I still can't reinstall it because I deleted it from my computer and the setup wizard couldn't repair the bugs. But I guess it's okay if it means I can open a score and open the software from there.
