Palettes are missing

When I open Musescore 3 (downloaded from the Ubuntu 18.04 lts appstore because I'm a Linux noob and don't know how to use appimage) the items in the palettes and inspected panel are gone. When I click anywhere on them it does nothing. I tried reverting to factory settings, pressing f9, uninstalling and reinstalling 3 times, before that I tried installing musescore 2 but It couldn't read sheet music created in 3, then I tried reinstalling some more times, and the palettes items are still gone. Do I need to modify a file or get a version that works better with palettes?
