Special Character Shortcuts

• Mar 11, 2020 - 15:37

I'm writing some stuff using old/middle english and Latin texts, in their original forms from print pages, and I'm finding it really annoying to have to open the special characters menu every time I need to put a thorn or an ash in, with the alternative being typing it out in word and copy-pasting it in. Is there any way that Word-style special character keyboard shortcuts could be added for the lyrics editing option? It's seriously stunting my workflow.

Keyboard shortcuts for special characters aren't currently supported, but if you drag a symbol from the Special Characters dialog directly into a palette, you'll then be able to enter that symbol while editing text by clicking the symbol in the palette.

You can even create a custom palette containing all of your most frequently used symbols.

Many OS's and keyboard support such shortcuts directly, such as using the "dead key" method, or Alt+number to enter the Unicode value. Consult the documentation for your system to see if it supports this. If not probably there exists some macro utility (e.g., AutHotKey for Windows) that can do the job.
