importing scores from BIAB

• Aug 22, 2014 - 21:46

I would like to import a score from BIAB library to Musescore so I can rearrange it there. It is a MGU file which I believe is supported by Musescore but can't find out how to do this. I am not technically proficient!
I need cookbook step by step instructions that assume (correctly) that I am challenged. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Open MuseScore.
In the menu of MuseScore, click on File (you should see New, Open, Recent scores etc...).
Click on Open.
In the dialog, navigate to your mgu file, click it and press OK.

I don't have BIAB, but I downloaded some free .mgu files from the net and opened them in MuseScore. All I got was a melody line on one stave plus the chord marks. No other instruments. I guess if you want the whole band, you have to export the file from BIAB as a midi file. Then you read the midi file into MuseScore. Because if you want to rearrange, I assume you're talking about the whole band. The .mgu file might not contain any note data for the band. Only the chord marks and some settings for the style. The note data is created on the fly in BIAB. Therefore you need the midi export, if you want the note data in MuseScore. MuseScore doesn't contain the logic to build up the same note data out of just the sttyle settings and the chord marks. It merely reads any melody note data and chord marks that the .mgu file does contain.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
