I restarted my computer to see if it would go away, but it was the same each time.

I had only worked with this program yesterday morning for the first time. Everything was fine. I even started it several times. Now, I am hearing this unbearable static along with my notation, and it is too annoying to continue my composition. Otherwise, I like the feel of the software, although I am still on a learning curve with it. I tested my sound card by playing a tune through Audicity, and received no static with that performance. Did I change a setting by accident? Have you had t his challenge in the past? Thank you...

Same problem, only worse!

I have to restart the computer every time in order to hear ANY applications playing back normally. As soon as I start Musescore the same thing happens all over. I was on the phone with a Lenovo tech for nearly an hour yesterday. I'm not having any problems with static on my Chromebook / Linux or an a Mac I'm using as for a workaround.

OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64,
MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.5.2.311459983,
revision: 465e7b6

No dice, Senior Schmitz. Nothing, including reverting to Factory Settings, has worked so far. I'm at least almost 100% certain that Musescore is to blame. I'd love to get it going on Windows 10 setup, but I've already wasted a great deal of time in this. I got the static to disappear off of Youtube just now by reinstalling a driver but now Musescore won't make a sound.

Indeed, are you hearing static with your MuseScore playback in addition to what you are describing with sound stopping in other programs?

Sounds like a Windows configuration issue to me, I gather there is some setting or other to prevent applications from taking control of devices exclusively, and you might need to enable that for your particular device. Or perhaps just switch to a different driver within MuseScore, in Edit / Preferences / I/O. Best to ask for help on the Support for help with this sort of system administration question. Tons of people there with that kind of experience would be more likely to be able to offer insight.
