Recovering files

• May 29, 2020 - 22:20

I recently had to redownload Windows, wiping my C: drive in the process. I'm now trying to recover my music scores but Musescore says it can't read them. I've attached two for reference.

The backups start with the period in the front and the comma in the back. Removing them doesn't resolve the issue, however. I've included one with the punctuation removed and one I haven't touched in any way.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but both of those files are completely corrupted and filled with data from unrelated files.

Did you recover these files using a utility that attempts to recover deleted files or entire formatted partitions? Because if so, the recovery unfortunately failed.

If these files were in your OneDrive, then you should be able to log on there and retrieve older versions. This is an incredibly useful feature that is not as well known as it should be.
