This tells you, that this measure is shorter tzen the timesig suggests. It won't print
That is a (non-printing) indication that the length of that first measure has been shortened and therefore contains fewer beats than would be expected from the time signature. If you right click on the measure and look at measure (or "bar" for GB English users) properties you will see where the duration has been modified to an effective 1/4 rather than 4/4.
