I don't know if this is the same issue I'm having periodically. Don't know if this is a computer issue or a musescore issue - sometimes the sound just gets turned off. It can be fixed by shutting the app and reopening it, but sometimes it happens at inopportune moments, when the last thing you wanted to do was have to wait for it to open up again.
My guess is that something doesn't get passed back and forth between the computer and Musescore. I've noticed this happens after a time of inactivity. It also has occurred frequently when I switch between internet browser and musescore; somehow the audio gets lost in the mix.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've actually forgotten the specificity of my question, but the latest issue is trying to figure out how I can edit the voice part for a voice and piano score on a laptop. I was able to make it happen on my desktop. For some reason I am unable to use the right click function when using my laptop. Simply wanted to change the sound for playback from the default to piano. Hope that makes sense.
Sound changes are done in View / Mixer, no right-click involved.
In the future, when asking for help using MuseScore, please use the Support forum, rather than the issue tracker, which is meant more for confirmed bugs.
