Current mind-set on uploading copyrighted material to Musescore.com

• Jul 29, 2020 - 17:58

There are a few forum posts on this subject. However, they are kind of old (2015). I am noticing that there is a LOOOOOT of copyrighted scores on Musescore.com. Can someone update me on the current thinking about uploading copyrighted material to Musescore.
1. Is it OK to do it as long as the copyright holder doesn't do anything about it?
2. Is it NEVER OK, even if the copyright holder doesn't do anything about it?
3. Does Musescore.com have some sort of agreement with the rights administrators (ASCAP, BMI, etc) that allows copyrighted material to be uploaded BUUUUUUT, if the rights administrators tell Musescore, then Musescore must delete the material and the uploader is held completely blameless.
4. If you upload copyrighted material you probably will not be sued, BUUUUUUUT the copyright holder can directly sue you, if they want to make an example of you.
5. Musescore has a financial arrangement with the copyright holders, that Musescore will pay them a certain percent (.001%) of money Musescore gets from Premium members. So everything is cool for uploaders.

Thank you.

Thank you. I like to see talented composers get paid for their talent. So I can upload away and not worry about any inconvenient laws. BTW: My understanding is that copyrighted material will only be available to premium members, which is fine. Will the uploader (even if not premium) always have access to copyrighted material he uploaded?
