Can't Install Update

No matter how I try to install the latest update, I get the message

"Installation directory must be on a local hard drive."

and can't proceed. I've had this issue before, so I knew enough to look it up in the support forum. It's bad enough that I have to launch a command window and run as administrator, but now that doesn't work, either.
