Remove selected range sometimes delete invisible parts of bars not selected

I get the error when I try to remove bars using the "remove selected range" function.

1) I hold down shift and click on the last of the last bar in the range I want to delete.
2) Still holding down shift I click on the first note of the first bar in the range I want to delete. You'll see the selection in the first attachment.
3) I delete this now and end up with what is shown in the 2nd attachment. The first two notes of this bar now plays simultaneously (I've highlighted them in red) when listening back and has a silent gap after the last half note of the bar. Like the deleted range also included an invisible part of this bar.
4) If I shift-select while click on the background of the bars (ie the staves rather than the notes), the selection looks like in the 3rd attachment. When deleted this range now, it seems to work fine.
