Extending lower staff stems into upper staff
I'm checking this piece for someone else. In bars 7-11 I had to make some changes. When I tried to reverse the bass note stems and then extend them up into the treble notes, they looked fine until I tried to save them. On saving, the distance between the staves increases, and the stems don't connect. Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I'm sure you wizards can help me out again. <3

Select the stem and press = to turn off automatic placement for the stem. The other staff will stop avoiding it. Actually looking at the score I see this is only necessary on the ones that don't already have it turned off.
