ls there someway to set preferences so that I can "select" without having to hold down the shift key? This is possible in the Piano Roll Editor by first selecting the "Select Notes" button. Can this be duplicated in the staff view screen?

Thank you,

It depends on what you want to select. If you want to select everything in a range, you can click and drag to make a rectangle selection. As I said this selects everything. If you only want notes, rests or grace note, there are buttons to select only these items from a range selection in the inspector (F8).

"you can click and drag to make a rectangle selection"

This doesn't work for me on the staff view screen. If I start the click and drag outside of the staff...the cursor turns into a NESW arrow and it slides/moves/positions the sheet of music. I would like for the cursor/arrow to behave the same way as it does when you hold the shift key down and click and drag without me having to hold down the shift key. I am using MS 2.5.0

Edit: I am using musescore "3".5.0

No, this isn't currently possible. Dragging to selecting isn't very efficient to begin with, if you are trying to make selection easier, it's much better to use the various standard shortcuts (eg, click then shift+click to select all between those "corners").

I was hoping I was overlooking something as I like the select options that the Piano Roll Editor offers. A sort of work around is to click Shift on an on-screen keyboard and then you don't have to hold down the Shift key to select. Most people that use this software won't like that but this is how most DAWs work. Most DAWs will have the same or similar options that the Piano Roll Editor has. I know this software is not trying to be a DAW even though I though I read somewhere that maybe 4.0 will lean in that direction.

Oh well, no complaints...this software is awesome.
